PONIX, a leading provider of comprehensive solar energy solutions for the modern generation, has partnered with Caltex, represented by Star Fuels Marketing Co., Ltd. (SFL)—a subsidiary of Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC) and the sole licensee for operating fuel businesses under the Caltex brand in Thailand.

Through this collaboration, designated spaces at Caltex service stations have been allocated for the installation of solar rooftop systems, aimed at promoting more efficient use of renewable energy. PONIX has already completed installations at four pilot locations and targets to expand to 50 stations nationwide by 2025, with an expected electricity cost savings of up to 50% per station.

Mr. Pongsakorn Nakwichien, CEO of PONIX Co., Ltd., stated that the development and adoption of renewable energy is a growing global trend. It not only contributes to environmental preservation but also enhances energy security. Solar energy has been one of the fastest-growing forms of renewable energy over the past decade. In Thailand, the solar cell market is expanding rapidly, supported by government policies encouraging households to install solar panels for residential power consumption. Businesses are also being encouraged to adopt solar energy to cut energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

These factors are driving the Thai solar rooftop market to grow at an average rate of 22% annually, with a projected market value of 67 billion THB by 2025. PONIX’s initiative supports the Thai government’s policy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

“PONIX recognizes the opportunity to support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all,” Pongsakorn said. “We reaffirm our commitment to advancing the renewable energy business by focusing on solar rooftop systems. Our collaboration with Caltex to allocate space and install solar rooftops at fuel stations aims to reduce operational costs. Each station is expected to save approximately 73,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year.”

He added, “This partnership is a significant milestone that combines the strengths, capabilities, and expertise of both parties to create business opportunities while promoting efficient energy use.”

To date, PONIX has installed solar rooftop systems at four Caltex service stations in Wang Chan District, Rayong Province; Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao Province; and Bang Pa-In and Wang Noi Districts in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The goal is to reach 50 installations nationwide by 2025, with the potential to save each service station up to 50% in electricity costs.

“We bring expertise and experience in solar energy systems, offering end-to-end solutions from design and installation to maintenance. Importantly, we use globally recognized brands known for their high performance, reliability, and safety, such as Jinko Solar for solar panels and SolarEdge for inverters. This ensures our customers receive top-quality, internationally certified equipment and services,” Pongsakorn emphasized.

Ms. Sompratana Jermsiriwat, Assistant Executive Vice President of Investment and Retail Business Development at Star Fuels Marketing Co., Ltd. (SFL), stated that in addition to implementing strategic plans to expand the network of fuel stations to support business growth, the company is also committed to utilizing its resources to minimize environmental impacts from operations. This includes seeking opportunities to enhance energy efficiency.

“We are proud to collaborate with PONIX to install solar rooftop systems at Caltex service stations. Solar energy is an important renewable energy source that enhances energy efficiency and helps reduce electricity consumption,” she said.

She further added, “We continue to enhance our capabilities and service efficiency to ensure customer satisfaction and to drive sustainable business growth through ongoing investments. These include delivering high-quality fuel products and services, conducting co-marketing with diverse business partners, and intensifying efforts to expand both our fuel station network and non-oil retail business to better cover key areas across the country.”
