On January 15, 2024, at 09:30 AM, Ms. Buppha Ruangsud, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development (DSD), assigned Mr. Somchart Suparee, Inspector-General of the DSD, to attend a meeting discussing workforce development strategies for the establishment of the EV Truck ECO System standard curriculum for electric trucks.
The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekporn Rakkhwamsuk, former Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare; Mr. Phatphong Phongruangrong, Senior Coordinator; academics; executives; representatives from various companies; and logistics business operators. Participants included Exponent Management Co., Ltd., Leadway Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd., Rootcloud Technology Co., Ltd., Ponix Co., Ltd., KE Corporation, and Impact Green Utility Holding Co., Ltd. The discussion took place at the meeting room, Building 1, 2nd floor, Leadway Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd.
This meeting marked a significant collaboration aimed at enhancing the skills of the Thai workforce, particularly in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). The initiative aligns with government policies and serves as the foundation for developing a standardized curriculum. The curriculum covers various aspects, including EV modifications, maintenance, and specialized technical training, acting as a key driver for Thailand’s industrial development. It is expected to create new opportunities for industries in all provinces to convert conventional trucks into electric trucks.
Additionally, initial recommendations for the curriculum development were proposed during the meeting. These included both short-term and long-term courses, such as basic EV skills training to widely disseminate knowledge among technicians and personnel. This would be followed by specialized training courses tailored to learners' interests or addressing urgent labor shortages.
Furthermore, digital technology integration was emphasized, featuring online training and the establishment of a Digital E-Learning Center. This center would serve as both a general and specialized knowledge hub for the automotive and EV industries through the Newgarage platform. Developed specifically for SMEs, auto repair shops, technicians, and automotive professionals, the platform aims to provide unrestricted access to essential knowledge, helping to overcome training capacity limitations and ensuring a well-equipped workforce in the evolving EV sector.
